Hello everyone. My name is Arttu Pitou At.

For the last several years I’ve worked in digital transformation, Google Workspace governance, educational technology, and systems administration for schools in Cambodia and across the Asia-Pacific region.

What I talk about today is not theoretical.

I have seen a former staff member download more than 20,000 paid curriculum materials two weeks after their last day of employment.

I have mitigated Telegram malware that was distributed through a school front desk into hundreds of parent and student groups.

I have discovered students communicating on school platforms using custom emojis of Pol Pot and Hitler.

And I have stood in front of a teacher drive encrypted by ransomware knowing there was no way to recover the files because it is not cryptographically possible at the time.

Every one of those incidents happened in Cambodia. Every one of them was preventable. The problem wasn’t hackers. The problem was governance.

Most schools don’t think about these issues until the curriculum has been copied, the malware has spread, or the teacher drive has become unusable. That is understandable.

The digital environment schools operate today didn’t exist when we were in secondary school.

When many of us were students, school problems largely stayed within the school walls.

Today, school systems follow students home, and what happens at home enters the classroom instantly.

Schools are now responsible for digital environments that didn’t exist a generation ago.

My work helps schools identify governance gaps, understand their exposure, and implement practical improvements before issues become safeguarding, reputational, operational, or compliance risks.

If you’re involved with a school and would like to discuss digital governance, student safety, AI readiness, or platform risk, I’d be delighted to continue the conversation.

And if I’m standing awkwardly by myself afterwards, please come and say hello. I’m much better at reading terms of service than talking to human beings.

Thank you.
